Team GB presenter Charlie Webster is currently fighting for her life in a coma after it was originally thought she was just dehydrated.
The Olympics is usually a time of celebration, companionship and good ol’ fun.
However, in a very shocking turn of events, a Team GB presenter has found herself fighting for her life in a Rio hospital.
Former Sky Sports News presenter Charlie Webster is currently battling a rare strain of malaria after cycling 3,000 miles from London to Rio to attend the 2016 games.
It’s being reported that the 33-year-old became unwell on the 6th of August after the Olympic opening ceremony. After being admitted to hospital, doctors thought she was dehydrated from her high intensity six-week Ride to Rio challenge.

However, things took an incredibly severe turn for the worst, as it was then discovered that Charlie had contracted a rare, and very dangerous, strain of malaria from a bacterial infection.

A tweet from Charlie’s Twitter account read: ‘What was initially thought as dehydration, caused by her riding to Rio, has since been diagnosed as a severe complication caused by a bacterial infection. Charlie is receiving great care and we will update when we can.’

It is now understood that Charlie had been put into an induced coma on Wednesday evening, with her mother, brother and manager at her bedside after flying to Rio.
An update has also shared that doctors from the London School of Tropical Medicine are being consulted for advice over who Charlie should be treated.

A source has revealed to The Sun that ‘Charlie is battling for survival at the moment – everyone is distraught. But she is so strong and a very fit and healthy person in general so we have to keep positive’.
